Theistic Evolution

Recently there has been an ongoing debate within the Christian church on the theory of evolution. Some say that it contradicts the Genesis account others say that the theory goes with the Bible. Witch is true? Is science in contradiction with the Bible? We will examine the evidence for and against evolution and how it requires a designer.

Evidence for evolution?

Most Christians that believe the Earth is only 6,000 years old simply ignore this question. They assume that the Bible clearly states the age of the Earth. See the only problem with this is that the Bible never gives a specific time. The Bible only says “In the beginning”. That verse leaves lots of room for speculation. So the theory of evolution is entirely possible. In fact it’s highly probable. First let’s consider the evidence. Most Christians point out that there are no transitional fossils. However as scientist make more discoveries it turns out that there have been those kinds of fossils right in front of us. Archaeopteryx is a prime example. It’s often considered the first bird. When scientists began to study the specimen they saw it had many dinosaur like features but the most interesting thing about it was there feather. Archaeopteryx shows a basic but key transition from reptiles to birds. That’s just one example. We won’t get into the other transitional fossils that have been found.

Another key argument for evolution is the geological layers that provide paleontologist with fossils. The lower you go the more simple life gets. The lowest layer contains basic single cells organisms. Once you leave the PreCambrian layers you’ll find this event known as the Cambrian explosion. Creationist like to use this a argument against evolution but really it’s a useless tactic. The Cambrian explosion took place over a period of 20 million years. That Is a huge amount of time when you think about it. God is also the likely the reason such a thing would happen but we’ll explain my position on that in another article. The Cambrian explosion just shows that there was rapid and unexpected genetic mutations causing the rapid evolution of species.

Evolution in this brief article is entirely possible with the guidance of a creator. I’ve attempted to keep this brief but there will be many more articles on the future about the controversial topic of evolution.
